Our volunteers helped stage light set up, preparation the day before, food/drink sales and counting audiences. Lighting set up is guided by NYU students and 2 volunteers worked on it. Work on the top of a ladder was scary but they enjoyed once got used to it.

On the performing day, 5 volunters helped arranging chairs, floor cleanup and loading drinks to kiosk. As well as macho men, 2 slim ladies worked hard.

During the performance, pastries, rice balls and various foods made by NYdV, other volunteers and Japanese restaurants were on sale. They were so much popular and sold quickly.

Due to the City regulation, the theatre could accomodate up to 240 people, so each NYdV volunteer counted the number of audience in their work shift. We supported smooth operation of this event.

Again, once the event finished, we offered labor to take out lightings, cleanup and moving stuffs. Around the midnight, NYdV successfully accomplished their tasks all day long.

What is this event?
This event aims for fundraising and better understanding of the services and activities which JASSI provides for the young people 20s and 30s age range.
Japanese American Social Services, Inc. (JASSI) is a non-profit organization, which was established in 1981 to address the social service needs of persons of Japanese and Japanese ancestry in the Greater New York area.JASSI helps Japanese and Japanese Americans to solve unforeseen problems arising from cultural differences, the language barrier or a lack of familiarity with procedures.
The population of young Japanese in New York is growing, but JASSI is not recognized by many young Japanese people. JASSI's bilingual staff members and volunteers offer a culturally sensitive source of support, information and direct assistance for visa, emergency medical support and apartment rental issues. Participating bands, dancers and artists were all free.
Itsuko Nagai, graphic designer, and Yui Iino, dancer showed their performances and music performances were coordinated by Tomoko, R&B singer of "Asian Entertainment Night" which promotes Asian entertainers in New York.
And special guests include MAMI, whose work were in BET Japan and MTV Japan VJ and FM-Tokyo now, as the m.c. and DJ KAORI known as "the best club DJ female" by her groove in Europe and US clubs.
