Unique Value
Japanese-Lead
Organization with Global Vision
NYdV provides a unique viewpoint as a Japanese-led organization.
While we are committed to serve communities in the US, a majority
of organization’s board and staff is of Japanese decent; either
born in Japan or Japanese American. This serves as one of NYdV's
advantages to tackle muti-cultural and diversity issues in the US
with objectivity and sensitivity.
Wide Network
Spanning across the US and Japan
NYdV has been highly valued by American communities for our achievement
of successful civil engagement efforts. We can leverage our experiences
to connect government agencies, Japanese and non-Japanese corporations,
and other not-for-profit organizations to make positive changes
in society beyond New York.
Uniquely
Situated to Mobilize the Japanese Community across the Globe
The US Census in 2010 shows that the Japanese and Japanese-American
community in the US has grown to 1.3 million people, whose education
and income is higher than the national median. 45% of the Japanese-identified
population has bachelor or graduate level degree, and the median
household is approximately $65,000.
The Japanese population in the US
is uniquely positioned to make a significant contribution to the
non-profit and social services sector in the US, if they can be
effectively mobilized.
However, the census also shows that more than 15% of the Japanese
population do not speak English well. This becomes a deterrent
to their participating in volunteer activities in an English speaking
environment. NY de Volunteer closes the language gap for potential
volunteers by providing announcements and training in Japanese,
so that even these 15% are not hindered from volunteering in the
US.
Committment
to Diversity and Social Change
We also believe the true understanding of different cultures is
gained through face-to-face interactions among people with diverse
backgrounds. NYdV, as a Japanese-led organization, can demonstrate
and share our core Japanese cultural values such as respect, harmony,
and teamwork. This is evident through the positive feedback we have
received from numerous beneficiary organizations.
